Washougal, WA – The Washougal Art and Music Festival is thrilled to announce that Sandy Moore’s captivating artwork, “Sail Boats,” has been selected as the centerpiece for its 2024 festival poster. The event, scheduled for August 10th in Downtown Washougal’s Reflection Plaza, promises to celebrate the vibrant arts scene of the region with Moore’s stunning creation as its visual focal point.
“Sail Boats” by Sandy Moore captures the essence of the area’s natural beauty and maritime spirit. Inspired by Cottonwood Beach and the majestic Columbia River, Moore’s mixed media fabric collage technique breathes life into the serene scene of sailboats gently gliding across the water. With a palette of blues and greens meticulously layered and textured, the artwork evokes a sense of tranquility and appreciation for the picturesque landscapes that surround Washougal.
Reflecting on her inspiration, Sandy remarked, “We are lucky to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. I love the water and living near the Columbia is a joy. This piece is inspired by Cottonwood Beach, a favorite destination.”
Moore’s unique approach to artistry involves coloring fabric in various shades to create depth and dimension, then skillfully layering and arranging them to form intricate compositions. The result is a mesmerizing fusion of colors and textures that invites viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty of the natural world.
For those eager to explore more of her captivating artworks, her portfolio can be found at Sandy Moore Arts https://www.sandymoorearts.com.

Camas, WA — Award-winning Camas author and playwright Gary Corbin has announced the release of his tenth novel, Under the Banner of Valor, with launch events and book signings in venues around the greater Portland/Vancouver area.
In this exciting, character-driven police procedural by acclaimed author Gary Corbin, second-year policewoman Valorie Dawes and the WAVE Squad get called into action after Clayton’s family planning clinics receive ominous threats: Close the clinics, or else.
Val takes this threat personally, as her closest friend since childhood, Beth, discloses that she’s pregnant and is considering an abortion.
Can Val support her friend and keep her safe from the armed madman? Or will Beth’s stubborn recklessness thrust her into harm’s way?
Not your typical police procedural, this fast-paced but character-driven mysterypits a young, tough, intuitive policewoman, Val Dawes, against a shadowy alliance of extremists whose chief weapons are violence and terror—and whose principal targets are pregnant women.
Advance readers describe it as “intense, emotional, and suspenseful.”
Book Launch and Signings: CapsN’Taps, Vintage Books, and more
To help promote the book, the author will kick off a series of release events and book signings. The first event is a launch party at Camas’ popular taproom, CapsN’Taps, on May 9, from 7-9 pm. Corbin will sell and sign books directly, and CapsN’Taps will offer $1 off any beer to customers who purchase a copy of the book at the event. There will also be surprise giveaways and other promos, and all ten of Corbin’s books will be available—signed by the author, of course.
“CapsN’Taps hosted the launch party for my very first novel, Lying in Judgment, which was a blast,” Corbin says. “Beer and books—what a great combination!”
On June 8, Corbin will read from the new novel and sign books at local favorite Vintage Books, 6613 E Mill Plain Blvd in Vancouver, at 2 pm. Copies of all ten books will be available for sale at the event.
“Vintage Books has been amazing at finding readers for my books, and they’re incredibly supportive of local authors,” Corbin says. “Vintage was one of the first to put my books on its shelves. It’s a great local bookstore with great selection and terrific event programming. I can’t say enough good things about it.”
Other events include online author interviews and promotional pricing at various online outlets.

Washougal, WA – The Two Rivers Heritage Museum will reopen their doors on Saturday, March 2, 2024, after their annual winter maintenance closure. Open each Saturday through October from 11 am to 3 pm, volunteer guides accompany visitors through the museum to offer interesting extra information and stories as well as answer questions.
The museum, located at 1 Durgan Street in downtown Washougal, is operated by Camas-Washougal Historical Society volunteers and features a wealth of photos, artifacts and information about the people, places, and businesses prominent in the early years of Camas and Washougal.
“Our goals this year are for more members and volunteers, and to spread the word about why people should visit our museum,” said CWHS president, Dick Lindstrom. “We are the ‘best kept secret’ in the area and actually get more visitors from out of town than from our own community. We hope more locals will come in and see all the artifacts we have on display that are sure to stir up some memories!”
During the maintenance shut down volunteers carefully cleaned and cared for the museum’s extensive Native American basket collection.
“Our objective is to use best practices when working with these precious artifacts,” said Richard Johnson, a volunteer. “This means proper cleaning, updating our display using non-damaging plexiglass stands, and careful storage to give some baskets a resting period. All these steps will help preserve the collection.”
Recently museum leadership prepared for reopening with a volunteer training session and a clean-up day to make sure the space shines. Popular displays include artifacts and information on Native American baskets and stone tools, early physicians, fishing, lumber and farming industries, a 30s style kitchen, woodworking tools, early mining, military uniforms and artifacts, teddy bears, Camas and Washougal High Schools, beautiful depression era glass bowls and vases, musical instruments and more.
The museum gift shop offers a new selection of postcards featuring historic photos of Camas and Washougal and images of artifacts in the museum, beautiful rugs woven onsite with Pendleton wool fabric trimmings, a variety of surplus antiques as well as many books about local history by local authors.
The Two Rivers Heritage Museum admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for students and free for children under 5 and all CWHS members. Group tours are available any day of the week (by appointment only). Leave a message at 360-835-8742 for scheduling.
CWHS is always looking for volunteers and new members to join and help support the preservation of local history. More information about the CWHS and the Two Rivers Heritage Museum can be found on their website at www.2rhm.com.
