Swimmers Receive USA Swimming Award

Vancouver— Swimmers Kasey Calwell, a Senior at Camas High School and Chris Xue, a Senior at Mountainview High School, have been named Scholastic All-Americans by USA Swimming. Calwell and Xue are among only 865 boys nationally, and among fewer than 200 boys in the Western Zone to qualify.  Applicants must be a USA Swimming athlete and have qualifying times equal to a Junior National Bonus time standard, and have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Both boys have 4.0 averages. Nearly 70 percent of all winners have a 4.0 average.

Calwell and Xue are the only swimmers, male or female, from Clark County to be awarded this distinction.

Both are actively being recruited by colleges from all over the country. Xue is a 50 Freestyler and Calwell an Individual Medley and Breaststroke specialist. Calwell will be attending Winter Junior Nationals in December, in Federal Way.

In addition, both have excelled on their respective high school teams over the past three years; and both have competed and performed well at State competition.

They are both coached by Darlene Hill of Columbia River Swim Team in Vancouver.
“I’m honored by the award,” said Calwell, who is considering several colleges.
